First, the ‘Specialty’ feature is unlocked at general Lv25. Then, if you want to level up your specialty, you need to consume runestones and gems. Each specialty has 5 levels, namely Veteran, Master, Expert, Grandmaster, and Genius. Each level can increase the buff value differently.
Note: Only when the first 3 specialties reach genius can the upgrade qualification of the last specialty be unlocked.
Covenant Attributes
Merlin’s covenant generals are King Arthur, Alfred the Great, and Beowulf.
You can use the Covenant Stone to upgrade his covenant level. But you must increase these general’s total attributes to reach the required value to activate corresponding covenant buff(s).

Recommended General Combination
We conducted calculations and experiments from 3 perspectives: ranged troop attack, defense, and HP, and came to the following conclusions.

The strongest archer attack combinations are Douglas + Merlin, Merlin + Marcus Agrippa, and Merlin + Douglas.Judging from the buff values, Douglas’ attack bonus is not as good as Agrippa’s. However, Douglas’ 3rd-star special skill has a 10% March Size Capacity bonus, and the 2nd specialty can add another 6%. Moreover, Merlin’s first covenant attribute has an extra 5%. Therefore, Douglas + Merlin’s march size bonus is the highest. You can use this combination to send out more troops, greatly enhancing the attack power.

Besides, the combination with the strongest archer defense bonus is Marcus Agrippa + Merlin.

As for ranged troops’ HP, the best general combination is Merlin + Douglas.
